If you're starting fertility treatment at CHR what should you know?

If you are starting fertility treatment at CHR, it is important to understand that your experience may look very different from what you have encountered at other clinics. CHR is known for working with complex cases and for patients who often feel they have run out of options. That means the process is thoughtful, detailed, and highly individualized from the very beginning.

Your Consultation Is Just the Starting Point

Your journey at CHR begins with an in depth consultation that looks beyond surface level diagnoses. Rather than relying on labels like unexplained infertility, the goal is to understand what is actually happening in your body. Age, prior IVF outcomes, hormone patterns, immune factors, ovarian response, and overall health are all considered together.

This initial visit is not about rushing you into treatment. It is about creating a clear plan that is grounded in data and tailored to you. Our consultations are about one hour in length.

A Comprehensive and Personalized Workup

After your consultation, you will receive a detailed diagnostic workup. For many patients, this goes well beyond standard fertility testing. Depending on your history and clinical presentation, this may include immune or autoimmune evaluations, hormone screening networks, hysterosalpingograms, saline sonograms, uterine assessments, and metabolic or inflammatory testing.

Some patients may also undergo more specialized evaluations related to ovarian aging, egg quality, or recurrent pregnancy loss. The purpose of this testing is not to overwhelm you, but to uncover patterns that may have been missed elsewhere. We do not believe in unexplained infertility and try to uncover the cause of your infertility.

This depth of testing allows your care team to design a treatment plan based on evidence rather than assumptions.

Daily Monitoring and Real Time Adjustments

One of the biggest differences patients notice at CHR is the level of monitoring during treatment. Once stimulation begins, many patients are monitored every day or every other day. This frequent monitoring allows the team to see exactly how your body is responding in real time.

Medication dosing is adjusted based on your hormone levels and follicle development, not on a preset calendar. This is especially important for patients over 40, those with diminished ovarian reserve, or those who have had poor response in previous cycles.

Rather than forcing your body to fit a protocol, the protocol is shaped around your biology.

Trigger and Retrieval Decisions Are Not Automatic

At the end of stimulation, the decision of when to trigger and retrieve eggs is made carefully and intentionally. This is not based solely on follicle size or standard timelines. Hormone trends, egg maturity patterns, and your individual response all factor into the timing.

In some cases, retrieving earlier may yield better quality eggs. In others, waiting slightly longer may be appropriate. These decisions are made collaboratively by physicians who review your data closely and adjust based on what your cycle is showing.

This level of precision is one of the reasons CHR is known for helping patients who have experienced repeated failed IVF cycles elsewhere.

A Team That Specializes in Complex Cases

CHR patients are often those who need a little extra attention and a deeper level of investigation. Many are over 40. Many have low ovarian reserve, recurrent pregnancy loss, or prior IVF failures. The clinic’s approach reflects that reality.

Every aspect of care is individualized, from stimulation protocols to transfer timing to lab decisions. There is no single template that every patient follows.

What Patients Should Know Moving Forward

Starting fertility treatment can feel overwhelming, especially if you have been through unsuccessful cycles before. At CHR, the goal is not to rush the process or promise easy answers. The goal is to give you clarity, transparency, and a plan that is built specifically for you.

Understanding your body, responding to it carefully, and adjusting treatment along the way is central to how care is delivered. For many patients, that difference is what makes moving forward feel possible again.

If you are beginning treatment at CHR, know that your care is guided by careful observation, ongoing evaluation, and a commitment to individualized medicine at every step.

Having met Dr. Gleicher for the first time today, I immediately felt at ease with his clear and thorough explanation of my case and individual circumstances. I was impressed that he was already familiar with the fertility clinic I had previously used, which had recently made headlines for its questionable practices. I would confidently recommend the Center for Human Reproduction. Dr. Gleicher and his team are exceptionally professional and deeply knowledgeable, dedicated to helping women achieve their fertility goals.

CHR in New York has a passionate and knowledgeable team, especially Dr. David and Dr. Norbert, who are truly committed to helping patients with complex fertility cases. They are honest and realistic. One IVF cycle may not be enough, and there are no guaranteed quick fixes. The care is excellent across the board, and nurses like Sonia and Maria go above and beyond to make you feel supported and cared for. It is important to know that treatment can be expensive if you do not have health insurance, but if you're looking for a dedicated and experienced team, CHR is a strong choice.
