What Is In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)?
In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a groundbreaking fertility treatment offered at the Center for Human Reproduction. IVF is the process of combining eggs and sperm in a laboratory setting to create embryos, which are then cultivated for a few days before being placed into the uterus. IVF may be an ideal treatment option if you are experiencing fertility challenges. With an extensive history of innovations in IVF, Dr. Norbert Gleicher and Dr. David H. Barad utilize cutting-edge technology and techniques to increase your chances of a successful pregnancy. If you are seeking an effective solution for fertility issues, contact CHR in New York, NY to schedule your consultation with one of our specialists.
How Does IVF Work?
In vitro fertilization is a carefully managed process designed to help with fertility challenges. Dr. Gleicher and Dr. Barad oversee IVF treatments at our practice in New York, NY. The IVF process begins with hormone suppression to regulate the menstrual cycle, followed by ovarian stimulation to promote egg production. Once the eggs are ready, they are retrieved and combined with sperm in our lab to create the embryos. These embryos are cultivated for a few days before one or more are transferred to the uterus. A pregnancy test will be conducted two weeks after the transfer to determine if the transfer was successful.
At CHR, IVF is never one-size-fits-all. Because most of our patients come to us after failed cycles elsewhere—or with complex diagnoses like diminished ovarian reserve, premature ovarian aging, or repeat implantation failure—every IVF protocol is tailored to the individual. Dr. Gleicher and Dr. Barad design custom stimulation cycles based on each patient’s ovarian function, hormone levels, and treatment history. From the timing of retrieval to the type and dosage of medications, every decision is made with precision. Our approach emphasizes evidence-based care, close monitoring, and ongoing adjustments to optimize outcomes—even in the most challenging cases.
What Are the Benefits of IVF?
In vitro fertilization is an effective fertility treatment that can offer several advantages if you are facing fertility problems. At the Center for Human Reproduction, the benefits of IVF are enhanced by our individualized care and advanced techniques. The primary benefits of IVF include:
- High success rates for achieving pregnancy
- Customizable treatments for individual needs
- Effective for older patients and complex patients
- Ability to bypass many infertility barriers
- Provides options for genetic screening of embryos
IVF Reviews
My journey started in 2018 when I went to another fertility doctor. I went through 3 IUI's which were not successful. Then went through 1 IVF cycle after PGS testing which failed in a miscarriage July of 2018. The doctor then went on saying I should consider donor egg as I was not going to be able to conceive with my own eggs. In looking for a second opinion that November my best friend and I stumbled into a video where Dr. Gliecher was speaking to help women past 35-40 get pregnant with their own eggs. I made a consultation appointment for Dec 5th 218 and Dr G stated I was going to get pregnant with my own egg. He ran tests and modified my treatment to my need. I had a retrieval on 2/3/2019 and transferred on 2/7/2019. I was pronounced pregnant on 2/19/2019 and my CHR miracle was born October of 2019. Today she is 5yrs old and is the most beautiful smart healthy loving kiddo I have been blessed by being her mother.
I have been blessed to find CHR on my journey. If anyone is lucky to find the clinic they will be surrounded not only by the greatest medical knowledge and research when it comes to IVF but a group of amazing professional.Everyone I have met there is just genuinely kind, professional and so helpful. I cannot say enough great things about CHR and the only way to know what I'm talking about is to give them a chance. Thank you CHR
I discovered your clinic when I was at my lowest. I happened on a video on your you tube channel titled, "The burning out pcos." Just that video gave me much needed hope and direction because I couldn't get a diagnosis of why I was cold, lethargic and weak. I decided to become a patient for my fertility problems and fortunately I could consult online. Extending help internationally is really helpful. It is not easy to find this calibre, everywhere. I was 43 when I told Dr Gleicher I couldn't afford to travel there to do my IVF. He made sure he gave me some nuggets of wisdom to go with. For one, he insisted that my numbers showed I could have a child using my own eggs, like I wanted. The one clinic in my country doubted I could have a child in my late 30s. Another clinic in another country in the region would not even consult with me because I was 43 and not willing to use donor eggs. Another was willing to take me on but we had 2 failed IVF cycles. They also recommended donor eggs. I'm happy to share that I conceived naturally at 45 and I am looking at a perfectly healthy 5 month old baby boy. May the good Lord bless you and your work. You are truly doing the work of God. I could withstand the pressure to take donor eggs because you were very clear that my desire was possible. Congratulations and best wishes!
Great experience overall! From the moment we entered the door we were greeted with beautiful smiles, greatest personality front desk employees and kindest and most knowledgeable medical professionals. I would list names but everyone employed by CHR deserves the most heartfelt recognition!Dr. Barad and Dr. GleiCher are performing IVF medical miracles if you ask me. We were kept informed about the next steps in our medical journey and the procedures were all don't on site with no stress at all.
Dr Gleicher and Dr Barad changed our lives! After many failed ivf attempts and miscarriages from natural conceptions, I booked a call with Dr Gleicher as his YouTube on being hypoallergenic and thyroid issues can cause miscarriage. He correctly diagnosed me on the phone and then confirmed with blood tests I have an autoimmune disorder (ANA positive) and need steroids the first trimester. He implanted 2 embryos (created when I was 43/44 and at age 47 I got pregnant!) I have a healthy 3 year old now. I only wish I would have talked to him earlier. Dr Barad did the implantation and has a great technique, this is art and science! I can’t thank them enough!

What IVF Patients come to CHR?
Most patients who come to CHR for IVF have already been through multiple failed cycles at other clinics or have been told that donor eggs are their only option. Many are in their 40s, have diminished ovarian reserve or premature ovarian aging, and are looking for a clinic that won’t dismiss their chances based on age or hormone levels alone. Others arrive after being labeled with unexplained infertility, despite years of testing and treatment, or have experienced recurrent miscarriage and implantation failure without a clear diagnosis.
What unites these patients is their need for deeper answers and a more individualized approach. At CHR, we specialize in complex cases—offering evidence-based, personalized care for those who haven’t found success elsewhere. Our team looks beyond the standard protocols to uncover overlooked causes and create custom IVF strategies tailored to each patient’s biology and history. For patients who’ve been told “there’s nothing more we can do,” CHR is often where the real work begins.
