At CHR, we take pride in offering personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s unique needs. This individualized approach is why many of our patients achieve success here, even after experiencing unsuccessful treatments at other IVF centers.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on what to expect during your journey with us:
Schedule an appointment by calling us or getting in touch via our contact form. Our infertility specialists perform initial consultations in person, over the phone, or via video for both local and long-distance patients.
You will receive an email invitation to our secure patient portal called Mend. This will give you access to the forms that need to be completed and returned to us via the portal before your consultation. If you don’t receive the invitation to the portal, please check your spam folder and check back with u [email protected].
During this hour-long appointment, the physician’s goals are to understand your fertility history and identify the likely problem areas to focus your treatment. You can prepare by gathering your relevant medical records. The cost of the initial consultation will be due on the day of the appointment.
Immediately after your consultation, you will be assigned a clinical coordinator who is a member of our nursing staff. You will meet your coordinator in person if your appointment is in our office, or if your consultation is via phone or video, your coordinator will call or email you to get in touch.
This will be your go-to person for all your treatment needs, including:
In order to tailor your treatment to your specific needs, we will ask you to undergo some testing. This set of tests, which we call the IVF Checklist, is designed to pick up potential problems in your ovarian reserve, immune system, and genetic predispositions, as well as your overall health.
Based on your medical history and age, you may also need some testing outside the standard IVF Checklist. If this is the case, your physician will explain the additional tests during your consultation and order them for you.
This testing phase can take anywhere from a few weeks to a month, depending on the processing time of the laboratory you’re working with. In our experience, overseas patients may need a bit longer to complete this testing phase due to the differences in the healthcare systems.
Don’t worry, your coordinator will order the necessary tests and help you get them completed. If you have done some of the tests within the past year, you won’t have to repeat them.
Depending on the test results, your physician may need to speak with you one more time to explain your treatment options in detail and help you finalize your treatment plan. If there isn’t anything unexpected in your test results, you won’t need this follow-up consultation (unless, of course, you want to go over your treatment plan with your physician one more time).
Once you and your physician agree on a specific treatment plan, you will receive a set of informed consent forms for your chosen treatment to review and complete.
If you decide to use donor eggs, you will be choosing your donor at this time as well.
At this point, you’ll be asked to make a full payment for the treatment cycle, including a minimal cycle cancelation fee. If your cycle is canceled, you will receive an immediate refund for the services that you don’t end up using with the exception of the cycle cancelation fee.
We’ll need to wait until we know exactly what your treatment plan is to determine the cost of the treatment. However, cost estimates for the various treatment options are always available over email or by speaking with our front desk staff.
Your coordinator will provide you with prescriptions for the necessary medications for your cycle. She will also let you know exactly when to start each medication and when to come in for your first monitoring visit.
During your treatment, you will need to come in for monitoring at CHR (for local patients) or at your local IVF center (for long-distance patients). At these appointments, usually scheduled in the early morning to minimize interference with your schedule, you will have blood tests and ultrasounds done. The frequency of the visits depends on how your ovaries respond to the medications, and your coordinator will keep you updated.
Throughout your treatment cycle, your coordinator can also answer any questions that come up. You can always ask your coordinator to arrange a consultation with your physician.
