What Is A Semen Analysis?
When pregnancy does not occur after more than a year of unprotected intercourse in women under age 38 and within six months at older ages, a couple should see a fertility specialist. As a part of an initial infertility diagnostic workup performed by Dr. Norbert Gleicher and Dr. David H. Barad, a semen analysis may be recommended. Semen analysis tests the quantity and quality of sperm. A complete semen analysis involves the assessment of several factors, such as how well the sperm moves, how the sperm's head is shaped, and sperm count. How Does A Semen Analysis Work?
Semen analyses are performed at our world-class facility in New York, NY under the supervision of Dr. Gleicher or Dr. Barad. Several factors are assessed by a fertility specialist to determine how effectively the sperm functions. However, there are three primary factors that are considered to be the most important:
Parameters |
Normal Findings |
|
At least 50% of sperm should "swim" in a more or less straight line. Sperm that "moves" well is more likely to reach the egg. |
|
At least 15% of the sperm should have a normal shape and structure with an oval-shaped head. Abnormally shaped sperm is less likely to be able to fertilize an egg. |
|
Sperm count should be above 20 million in a milliliter of sperm. A complete semen sample should have at least 40 million sperm. |
When any one or more factors are "abnormal," male infertility may be diagnosed. These factors are only approximations of the sperm's crucial function in penetrating the egg's wall and fertilizing it. Unfortunately, we have no reliable test to determine how well sperm does in this function. Therefore, the next best thing is to test sperm function indirectly through a semen analysis. If sperm count, motility, and morphology are all normal, then, it is extremely likely the sperm's function will be normal as well, and if one or more parameters are abnormal, one can assume a fertilization problem exists. The severity of the fertilization problem is usually considered proportionate to the severity of observed abnormalities in the semen analysis.

Center For Human Reproduction Reviews
Great so far.
Dr Gleicher is a king, he is on the highest level of experience and knowledge. I met some IVF doctors before and no one came even close to his professionalism and wisdom. This generation of doctors are the real doctors, that know IVF inside out. And fight for their patients and not treat them like numbers like most others in that industry. They want the best outcome and actually investigate your issue based on their vast knowledge, almost like a detective. I am so thankful I met him.
Very compassionate, knowledgeable and great care!
Highly recommend, wish I found them sooner. Came to them as a second opinion. They did tests which two other reputable well known IVF clinics in the north east did not check for. Start here if you need answers.
Beautiful office and staff
